Fancy something completely different?
This is an unbelievably rare chair!
The ultimate cool fully adjustable chair,
ideal for a barbers or tattooists.
What this chair does....
1) Goes up & down hydraulically ( by a massive amount!)
- has a really cool auto down lever - press and go - when the chair
is all the way to the floor it even resets itself!!!!!!
2) Spins around - fully articulated, but can be locked in place
anywhere in 360 degrees with a touch of a lever on the base.
3) Seat base tilts forward and backwards
4) Backrest flicks in & out at the bottom with a catch -
can only describe it as a very early lumbar support!
5) Backrest goes up & down
6) back rest goes down way lower than horizontal
7) Head rest goes up and down (and can be removed completely)
(headrest has full articulation that locks off with one handle)
8) Second set of leather clad two pad rests included -
probably from its original dental use!
9) Foot plate has two positions, dependant on occupants leg length
I've spent hours in this chair just going up, down, and around!!!
All the upholstery is the original burgundy leather, in absolutely
fantastic condition considering its age. The padding is great,
and is still in fantastic condition - very comfortable.
All metalwork is iron, with the exception of some of the slide
parts which have what appear to be copper or brass 'slips' in
to aid the movement. Remember, all knobs, levers, etc,
are all present & correct - it even has the original
hardwood armrest tops. You could use this chair
as a imaginative alternative to an lounge chair,
or have the best seat in your barbers / tattoo studio.
(and a lost less £££'s than an original Eames...)
Far more ornate and elegant than a Belmont - I'm
not knocking them, they're just a little 'square'...
This chair is old, from research it is approx. 100-115 years
old. Most that have come to light in North America in the last
few years with the intricate detail on the base plate, the flip
foot plate, and the dual headrest options seem to be
circa 1902. This is an American made chair imported to the UK...
Here's a few bits from the 'still trading' SS White co....
Few companies can trace a corporate history with a bedrock of innovation that
spans back to 1844. Today, SS White Dental is a family owned and operated U.S.
based business with more than 250 employees and worldwide distribution. Its
corporate roots are found in the history of Samuel Stockton White, who began
his career as an apprenticing dentist and ventured into his own business in 1844,
manufacturing porcelain teeth in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company proudly
bears the name of its founder and continually maintains its original objective:
better products for better dentistry.
If you check out their site, navigate to 'history' and a picture of this
chair is on the header graphic! They must be proud of these chairs!
Finally... It is Over 100 years old, it is extremely heavy,
and it takes three people to lift. It does have marks and
bits of old chrome peeling here & there, but in my
personal opinion only adds to its character.
I bought this for personal use in my bay window at home,
however as it is over five feet from front to back and
two feet wide (and can raise to five feet tall), and
that I don't have a palisaded mansion, it took up way
too much space. This is the ONLY reason its for sale...
